The King IV Conference

CREATIVE CONCEPT:

Using the baobab tree as a metaphor for the values embodied by the King IV report, we brought the theme of good corporate governance to life through video, décor, design and messaging. The baobab was so successful as a metaphor and visual symbol for corporate governance that it was incorporated into the IoDSA’s corporate identity.

Once guests had RSVPed positively to the electronic invitation, they could access the event app to register, see speaker profiles, create their own profile, access social media feeds, see the programme and agenda, and chat to other delegates.

The day opened with a magnificent video which included all the ExCo members and artist John Adams. Together they were seen via timelapse, creating a rubbing of a massive baobab tree which now hangs in the foyer of the IoDSA. The day was facilitated by Vusi Thembekwayo, and high-level speakers brought the theme of good corporate governance to life through a series of fascinating and informative presentations.

To keep the energy alive, a flash mob took to the stage after lunch and, to close the day, an international panel discussion gave a global perspective on governance issues, ending with a Q&A. A stylish cocktail party allowed delegates to mingle and network after the conference. Sponsors showcased their services in an exhibition space where snacks, tea and coffee were served, and décor was provided by local beaders who created gorgeous beaded orchids and baobab trees. The event was certified as a green event.
