The Board of Airline Representatives of South Africa (BARSA) Aviation Summit 2018, was held on Friday the 2nd of March at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rosebank.

In 2016, June Crawford, CEO of BARSA, attended the Institute of Directors’ King IV launch conference, managed by Creative Directions. Impressed with the standard of the event, June approached us to present concepts for the BARSA conference to be held in 2018.

Having presented the concept of a blueprint summit that would lay the foundation for collaborative work between government and the aviation, travel and tourism industries going forward, Creative Directions was awarded the event.
Creative Directions creatively and logistically produced and managed the summit, from concept creation to implementation of all the elements involved, with BARSA briefing in the content and presentations that were delivered on the day by leaders in government and the aviation, travel and tourism industries.

Design, video, gifting, conference collateral, branding, technical, and décor all fell under the Creative Directions banner and, according to a delegate with real clout, were all ‘perfectly executed’.

The day opened with a video that brought the theme, ‘A Blueprint for Collaboration’ to life on screen. Vusi Thembekwayo then took to the stage and performed his duties as programme director with a great sense of humour, and his uniquely intelligent delivery style. Presentations were delivered in PowerPoint templates that we designed using the blueprint-themed artwork.
 
Following a day of business sessions and panel discussions, delegates enjoyed a relaxed, stylish and celebratory gala dinner. A prize giving saw generous gifts being handed out to delegates and the audience was left flying high after a day and night of intense collaboration hosted by the Board of Airline Representatives of South Africa.

In keeping with our passion for creating ‘green’ events, delegates’ conference gifts were solar jars filled with blue and clear glass disks. The lamps were placed at each person’s place and created a magical effect in the conference room when delegates entered. Water was not served in plastic bottles, but in glass jugs, and no sweets were offered, but healthy alternatives in the form of fruits in beaded bowls were always available. All excess food as well as the cut flowers for the gala dinner were taken to charities in Johannesburg and Soweto.

The feedback from the event has been nothing but positive and when asked by June Crawford, CEO of BARSA, if they thought that the summit should become an annual event, the answer was a resounding ‘Yes!’.
